Joe Filisko began creating custom instruments and making them available to the public in 1990, drawing on his background as a musician, craftsman, and machinist. These instruments were enthusiastically received. An associated Press story ran nation wide as early as 1992. His list of customers was soon to include many of the worlds most highly respected professional players in blues, rock, country, old timey, world music, and jazz.
The overwhelming demand eventually led to the need for other trained technicians to help repair and maintain the mass of precision instruments being created. This is where Richard Sleigh started his apprenticeship in 1995 and James Gordon in 1998.
In addition to becoming a master at the mechanics of the instrument itself, Filisko has also studied and learned many of the popular playing traditions and broken down the musical styles of numerous players living and deceased.
This makes Filisko one of the Worlds top authorities on the diatonic harmonica, its players and legacy of recordings.
You can often find Joe hanging out at numerous harmonica conventions worldwide in addition to teaching every Monday at the Old Town School of Folk Music on Chicago’s north side.
Due to the present workload and schedule Joe is unable to accept orders at this time, and requests that you please contact Richard or James for your Filisko Method Harmonica needs.
Thanks and Best Regards,
